Barcelona head coach Quique Setien said he “will not feel like a champion” if the club are awarded the Spanish La Liga title early due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Barcelona are currently two points ahead of fierce rivals Real Madrid with 11 matches of the season remaining, and the campaign was postponed until further notice on 23rd March.
Setien joined Barcelona on 13th January, after he replaced Ernesto Valverde, and is contracted until 30th June 2022.
His predecessor won back-to-back La Liga titles and Setien will be keen to deliver a hat-trick of league crowns for Barca if or when the season eventually returns.
Setien went on to add that he still dreams of the day when he can “walk down the countryside among the cows in (his hometown village) Liencres with the Champions League trophy in my hands”.
The words echoed a resemblance to his official presentation as head coach on 14th January when Setien said, “yesterday I was walking with the cows in the countryside outside my village. And today I was at FC Barcelona’s sports centre coaching the best players in the world.”
