As many as three Super Over contests were required to determine the winners in a manic day of action in the 2020 Indian Premier League.

Lockie Ferguson and Mohammed Shami turned heroes for their respective sides as Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab clinched important victories.

The first clash of the day saw Sunrisers Hyderabad fall just short of victory while chasing a target of 164. Some sensational bowling from Lockie Ferguson on his first outing of the season saw KKR take the clash into a Super Over despite a valiant batting effort from SRH skipper David Warner.

Ferguson repeated his exploits in the decisive Super Over and conceded just the two runs before dismissing both Warner and Abdul Samad. Kolkata had no trouble bettering that effort as SRH were made to rue their mistakes.

There was even more drama on offer in Sunday’s second clash, as Kings XI Punjab prevailed over Mumbai Indians after two see-saw Super Overs. Jasprit Bumrah’s excellent Super Over first up meant that Mumbai Indians were chasing a target of just 6 runs, but Mohammed Shami kept KXIP alive by conceding just 5 runs.

Chris Gayle and Mayank Agarwal proved to be the heroes in the next set of Super Overs as KXIP finally held their nerves to bag a desperately needed victory.
